Competition: Championship
Market: Watford win
Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport
Looking to claim back-to-back Championship victories on Saturday afternoon, Watford will welcome Wigan to Vicarage Road.
Starting with the hosts, while many might have been shocked to see Chris Wilder arrive at Vicarage Road earlier in the month, the Hornets were last seen putting in a stellar display. Laying down a play-off marker in midweek as they cruised their way to a 3-0 romp against Birmingham, the former Sheffield United boss will be calling on his new squad to find some recent stability. With their sights still firmly set on trying to secure a Premier League return in 2023, the Hornets should be smelling the chance to claim back-to-back Championship victories here. Drawing a line under their three-match winless run, Wilder’s men should be boosted by their continued success on home soil. In fact, including an action-packed 3-2 victory against West Brom on February 20th, it should be noted that Watford are unbeaten at Vicarage Road since opening the New Year.
As for the visitors, although Wigan might have managed to snatch a 1-1 draw at home against Coventry earlier in the week, it doesn’t cover what has been a nightmare Championship run. Still battling it out in the drop zone and tipped as a leading contender to be hit with an immediate League One return, Shaun Maloney knows that he has quite the job on his hands this season. Including a 3-0 drumming at the hands of a high-flying Burnley last week, the Latics are in the midst of a seven-match winless run. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, the former Hibernian boss has seen his downbeat squad claim just one Championship win since the middle of November. Suffering a 1-0 loss when they welcomed Watford to the DW Stadium for their reverse meeting on October 29th, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
