Competition: A-League

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 4/7 @ 1xBet

In what could prove to be a frantic A-League showdown on Wednesday morning, Sydney will travel to the Sky Stadium when they meet Wellington.

Starting with the hosts, while Wellington might have signed off 2024 with a much-needed 2-1 victory against Newcastle, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for the Phoenix. Despite claiming a silver medal finish among Australia’s elite last season, Giancarlo Italiano’s men have drastically struggled to find any kind of fluidity this time around. Battling outside the play-off places and now with a real uphill scrap on their hands, the midweek hosts have continued to show a string of glaring issues over the past couple of months. Last seen falling to a 2-1 defeat at home against Adelaide, Wellington have lost back-to-back A-League showdowns by an aggregate score of 4-1. Likewise, with their recent issues underlined by a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Western Sydney last month, Italiano’s camp have lost five of their previous six appearances. It should also be noted, Wellington have failed to muster a single A-League clean sheet since back on November 24th.

As for the visitors, while Wellington might find themselves at the heart of a public struggle, Sydney are riding a real wave of momentum. Putting in what was a dominant display last weekend as they stormed their way to a 4-1 romp at home against Central Coast, the Sky Blues are enjoying what has become quite the purple patch. Including a 3-0 victory against Perth earlier in the month, Ufuk Talay’s side have collected 10 points from their previous four A-League appearances. Skyrocketing their way into the play-off places, Sydney have also gained a reputation or their clinical performances in the final third. Despite getting 2025 underway with a dramatic 2-2 stalemate against Wednesday’s hosts, Talay’s camp have recorded 18 goals in just their previous six domestic showdowns. It should also be highlighted, the Australian giants have bagged at least a pair of goals in four of their last five matchups away from the Allianz Stadium across all competitions.

Bet: Both teams to score at Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC 4/7 for Wednesday’s A-League showdown @ 1xBet
