In a showdown between two genuine play-off contenders, West Brom will welcome Burnley to the Hawthorns on Thursday night.
Starting with the hosts, although West Brom might have come flying out of the traps when opening up the new campaign, Carlos Corberan’s men have largely come crashing back down to earth. Sliding out of the automatic promotion places, the former Huddersfield boss is desperately seeking some kind of boost on Thursday night. However, suffering a second-half collapse away at Luton last week as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate at Kenilworth Road, the Baggies have failed to collect a single victory from any of their previous seven straight Championship appearances. With that rut stemming all the way back to a 1-0 win against Plymouth on September 21st, West Brom have also continued to show some glaring issues in the tubal third. Signing off October with back-to-back 0-0 stalemates against Cardiff and Blackburn, the midweek hosts have also recorded just a pair of goals since the end of September. It should also be highlighted, Corberan’s side have seen all of their previous six Championship showdowns finish with under 2.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while Burnley might still be dreaming of the chance to book an immediate Premier League return this season, the Clarets are desperately seeking some kind of recent stability. With it suggested that new boss Scott Parker could already have some mounting pressure on his shoulders at Turf Moor, Wednesday’s guests have recorded just a single Premier League victory from any of their previous five straight Championship appearances. Putting in another toothless performance last weekend as they fell to a 1-0 loss away at Millwall, the former Fulham boss has seen his squad gain a recent reputation for their extended struggles in the final third. Signing off October with a 0-0 stalemate against QPR, Burnley have drawn back-to-back Championship blanks for the first time this season. It should also be highlighted, the Clarets have registered more than a single strike in just one of their last seven showdowns. Likewise, with each of those seven appearances finishing with under 2.5 goals, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
