Bitesize Prediction: West Brom vs Plymouth – 21/09/24

Competition: Championship

Market: West Brom win

Odds: 1/2 @ BetUS

Hoping to extend their stay at the top of the Championship table, West Brom will welcome Plymouth to the Hawthorns on Saturday night.

Starting with the hosts, while West Brom might have suffered a real EFL Cup upset last month as they fell to a 2-1 loss at the hands of League Two outfit Fleetwood, the Baggies are in the midst of a remarkable Championship romp. Opening Saturday’s showdown at the Hawthorns leading the chase at the top of the table, Carlos Corberan’s men have continued to gain a string of admirers. Marking their return from September’s international break with another dominant display as they stormed their way to a 3-0 victory away at Portsmouth, the former Huddersfield boss has seen his high-flying squad register 13 points from their first five Championship appearances. With the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, West Brom will be smelling the chance to lay down another early marker this weekend. Heading into September’s fortnight interval with a 1-0 win at home against Swansea, the Baggies have won all of their previous three consecutive Championship showdown by an aggregate score of 6-1.

As for the visitors, managing to finally open their Championship account last weekend with an action-packed 3-2 victory at home against Sunderland, Plymouth will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, opening up the new campaign in the midst of a real struggle, Wayne Rooney’s men should be bracing themselves for a heavyweight challenge this weekend. Crashing out of the EFL Cup last month following a routine 2-0 defeat at the hands of Watford, Saturday’s guests have shown some extended issues at the back. Opening up the new campaign with an infamous 4-0 drumming away at Sheffield Wednesday on August 11th, the former England skipper finds his squad pencilled in as a landslide underdog when they arrive in the Midlands this weekend. Two sides who are expected to be battling it out at opposite ends of the Championship table, we are backing a home victory here.
