Competition: Premier League
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 7/10 @ BetUS
Desperate to claim a crucial Premier League boost on Saturday afternoon, West Ham will welcome Ipswich to the London Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, while West Ham might have only appointed Julen Lopetegui over the summer, the former Wolves boss already finds a tremendous amount of pressure on his shoulders. Although the Hammers might have mounted a second-half comeback away at Brentford last weekend as they eventually snatched a 1-1 stalemate, they have only collected a single victory from any of their first six Premier League appearances and have come under a hefty amount of scrutiny. Crashing out of the EFL Cup last week following a 5-1 drumming at the hands of Liverpool, West Ham have continued to gain a reputation for their glaring defensive issues. Getting the new campaign underway with a 2-1 loss at home against Aston Villa on August 17th, Saturday’s hosts have remarkably recorded just a single Premier League clean sheet since way back on January 2nd. It should also be noted, Lopetegui’s side have lost all of their first three top-flight showdowns at the London Stadium by an aggregate score of 8-2.
As for the visitors, storming their way to an iconic Premier League return for this season, Ipswich are in the midst of what has become a remarkable fairytale. While Kieran McKenna’s men might have failed to muster a single victory from any of their first six Premier League appearances, the Blues have rightfully received plenty of plaudits. Last seen putting in a stellar performance at Portman Road as they snatched a thrilling 2-2 stalemate at home against Aston Villa, the one-time Manchester United coach should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Now collecting a single point from each of their previous four consecutive top-flight appearances, Ipswich are desperate to drag themselves further away from the drop zone. Although Saturday’s guests might have recorded just a sole clean sheet across any competition since making their famous Premier League return this year, McKenna’s side could be confident of exploiting a West Ham squad that have continued to show some glaring issues at the back.
