Odds: 2/3 @ 888sport
In an A-League contest that could see chances at both ends of the pitch, the Western Sydney Wanderers will host Newcastle on Wednesday morning.
Starting with the hosts, once again having to settle for another action-packed point last week, Western Sydney have gained a reputation as a real stalemate specialist. Eventually playing out a 2-2 draw at home against the Central Coast Mariners, Head Coach Mark Rudan has seen his side grab a single point from four of their last five A-League contests. Likewise, recording just a single victory from any of their previous seven matchups, a run that stems back to March 5th, the Wanderers have shown some extended issues at the back. Including a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Sydney earlier in the month, Wednesday’s hosts have failed to record a clean sheet over the past month. Likewise, it should be highlighted, Western Sydney have seen each of their previous four A-League matchups finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to losing ways with a 2-1 defeat at home against Melbourne Victory, Newcastle find themselves really seeking some stability. Despite picking up a stunning 6-1 romp at home against Perth Glory on April 9th, the Jets have won just one of their last four A-League matchups. Now in a real uphill battle if they’re to break into the top-six, Head Coach Arthur Papas has seen his side show a string of issues on the road. Including a 3-2 defeat away at Wellington last month, Wednesday’s guests have managed to pick up just a single point away from the McDonald Jones Stadium from any of their last six matchups, a run that stems all the way back to February 12th. In a contest that famously produces chances at both ends of the pitch, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
