Competition: Irish First Division

Market: Wexford win

Odds: 4/5 @ BetUS

Looking to extend on their bright start to proceedings, Wexford will welcome Kerry to Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Wexford might have suffered play-off heartbreak last season, the Youths haven’t shown any signs of a hangover this time around. Making an immediate return to winning ways last time out as they secured a gritty 1-0 victory away at Treaty United, Stephen Elliot’s men have enjoyed a bright start to proceedings. Getting the new campaign with a dominant display as they cruised their way to an eye-catching 3-0 romp against UC Dublin, the one-time Sunderland striker has seen his squad muster nine points from their first four First Division appearances. With their sights firmly set on securing a lucrative top-flight return in 2025, Wexford will be looking to lay down another early marker this weekend. It should also be noted, gaining a reputation for their rugged performances at the back, Elliot’s camp have conceded just a single First Division strike so far this season.

As for the visitors, although Kerry might have opened up the new campaign with a 2-0 victory against the Finn Harps, Conor MaCarthy’s side have come crashing back down to earth. Lifting the wooden spoon last season after finishing rock-bottom of the First Division table, Friday’s guests have once again shown some glaring issues. Suffering respective 1-0 defeats against Bray and Dundalk on either side of opening March, the Greens have lost each of their previous three appearances. Suffering a real second-half collapse away at longford last week as they eventually fell to an action-packed 3-2 defeat, they have also put just a single point on the board since the opening weekend. Facing another stern examination here, Kerry should also be concerned by a nightmare record against Wexford. Including a 4-0 drumming when they travelled to the promotion dreamers last season, they have also failed to win any of their nine historic meetings.

Bet: Wexford 4/5 to beat Kerry in Friday’s Irish First Division battle @ BetUS
