Hoping to extend on their Champions League charge this weekend, Stuttgart will make the trip to Wolfsburg on Saturday evening.
Starting with the hosts, hit with late heartbreak away at Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw, Wolfsburg have continued to struggle with their consistency this season. Still battling it out in the bottom-half of the Bundesliga table and almost sat in top-flight limbo, the Wolves are remarkably without a win from any of their previous eight straight domestic appearances – a run that stems all the way back to December 16th. Gaining a reputation as a real stalemate specialist and setting for a single point in six of their last seven Bundesliga outings, Niko Kovac will be concerned by his side’s extended issues at the back. Including another 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim on February 4th, Wolfsburg have failed to register a clean sheet since opening up the New Year. It should also be highlighted, Saturday’s hosts have seen six of their previous seven Bundesliga appearances finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, although Stuttgart might have been forced to settle for a disappointing 1-1 stalemate against Koln last week, Die Roten have continued to receive a string of plaudits this season. Remarkably battling it out at the top of the Bundesliga table, it is no secret that Sebastian Hoeneb’s men have their sights firmly set on punching a famous Champions League ticket in 2024. Despite watching their DFP Pokal adventure come to an abrupt end on February 6th as they suffered an action-packed 3-2 loss against Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart have collected 13 points from their previous five Bundesliga appearances. With their stunning purple patch underlined by a 5-2 romp against German giants RB Leipzig on January 27th, Saturday’s guests have continued to receive a reputation for their free-scoring performances in the final third. However, it is worth highlighting, with Stuttgart seeing all of their last six domestic showdowns finish with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.
