Competition: Chinese Super League
Market: Shanghai Shenhua win
Odds: 3/5 @ BetUS
Looking to make up some ground in the Super League title chase, Shanghai will travel to Wuhan on Monday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, suffering last-gasp heartbreak at home against Chengdu Rongcheng last week as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate, Wuhan are seeking some much-needed stability. Signing off June with a 2-1 defeat at the hands on Nantong, Ricardo Rodriguez’s men have managed to claim just a single victory from any of their previous six appearances across all competitions. Crashing out of the FA Cup last month following an action-packed 4-3 loss at the hands of second-tier outfit Guangxi Pingguo, the former Girona boss will also have a mounting headache over his side’s extended defensive struggles. Facing what will certainly be a real challenge here, Wuhan have also gained an unwanted reputation for their issues on home soil. Including a routine 2-0 defeat against title contenders Shanghai Port on June 25th, Monday’s hosts have collected just a single point from any of their previous four Super League showdowns in front of their own supporters.
As for the visitors, putting in what was a rampant performance last week as they stormed their way to a 5-0 romp away at Cangzhou, Shanghai Shenhua have embarked on a real purple patch this season. Breezing their way to a lucrative AFC Champions League ticket, Leonid Slutsky’s side have won all of their previous seven appearances across all competitions. Opening July with another statement of intent as they secured a 6-0 victory against Shandong Taishan, the one-time Hull City boss should be smelling another golden opportunity here. Desperate to make up some ground in the Super League title chase, Monday’s guests have remarkably not suffered a single defeat from any of their 23 appearances since opening up the 2024 campaign. With the mood in their camp at a red-hot high and really impressing with their clinical performances in the final third, Shanghai also hold a rampant record against Wuhan. Landing a 4-1 win when they last met Monday’s hosts back on April 9th, we are expecting a similar away win here.
