According to the Northern Echo, Anton Ferdinand has discussed an £8 million move to Sunderland with Roy Keane and the centre-back will spend the next 48 hours weighing up whether to complete the deal.
It is reported that Keane launched the bid for the former England Under-21 international over the weekend after becoming frustrated with his failure to land Manchester United’s Jonny Evans.
Convincing 23-year old Ferdinand to move to the North- East could prove difficult, after he was not attracted by a move to Newcastle earlier this summer but given his increasingly frustrated life at Upton Park over the last few months, there is strong suspicion that he is now ready to seriously consider leaving.
The Black Cats boss is short of central defenders following the return of Evans to United in May and had to start with Danny Collins alongside Nyron Nosworthy against Liverpool on Saturday, despite the fact that Collins had become more accustomed to playing left-back under the Irishman.
