Blackburn owners assure Kean his job is safe

Blackburn Rovers co-owner Venkatesh Rao has given manager Steve Kean a boost by insisting the Scotsman’s job is safe, despite a winless start to the season.

With up to 1,000 fans expected to march the streets surrounding Ewood Park ahead of the game against Arsenal and the team yet to get a point on the board in four games, Kean’s future at the club has come under much scrutiny from supporters.

However Rao is keeping faith in Kean and is not worried about the fierce attitude the fans will no doubt carry with them leading up to Saturday’s game.

“[Steve Kean’s job is] very much safe and I’m sure he’ll produce the results,” Rao said.

He added: “I am not worried about the welcome for tomorrow, I’m more worried about the results.”

“If we give results I am sure everybody will be happy. We have been unlucky the last few matches. I will come out of this and I am not worried for anything because we are putting our heart in and we are working very, very hard.”

“I’m sure we have to satisfy the fans first. I am not worried because we are doing nothing wrong. I want to take the interests of the fans first.”

Blackburn managed to survive the drop last season, but despite the fans asking for change at the club, Rao believes none is necessary.

“It’s the fans who also own the club and they are a family and in a family if your father gets angry at you, you don’t get angry,” he said.

“I understand the frustration and anger, but we can’t do anything about it. It will take its own time, but fans have all the right to get angry and tell us because they are the people, for them this club runs. If they’re not there, we’re not there so we have to listen to them.”

“It’s not so easy to just put someone in and out, in and out. It’s nothing to do with Steve. We have to give time and we have to keep calm and we’ll produce results. He’s very much safe. There’s no problem with Steve.”

“He’s a very nice man and I’m sure he’ll deliver the goods. It’s only bad luck with the last few matches. The management has no idea of changing anybody out here. We are concentrating on not to change anybody, but to produce results.”
