(GSM) – Premiership new boys Blackpool have extended a trial chance to veteran English striker Francis Jeffers with an aim at bringing the player on board for the new season.
Jeffers, 29, enjoyed great spells at both Everton and Arsenal earlier in the decade, but his anticipated stardom never came to fruition at both the club and international levels.
The Liverpudlian forward spent the last three seasons with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, scoring just five goals in 54 league appearances with many injury problems plaguing his time at Hillsborough.
Even in his time at Arsenal, Jeffers has been unable to escape the injury bug. He was an £8 million signing for the Gunners in the summer of 2001, but he made just 22 league appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side.
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway is desperate to have a consistent finisher in the box as the Seasiders look to survive their first-ever Premiership season.
Jeffers was released by Wednesday and is a free agent.
