Blackpool striker Marlon Harewood could miss up to six weeks of football after tearing a hamstring at training on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old marksman has been in excellent form so far this season, with five goals from six English Premier League starts.
His Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has taken some of the blame for the blow, which was suffered during sprints at the end of an extended training session.
“I wanted it to be competitive at the end of training and it went on too long. It was my fault,” Holloway said.
“I’m in the doghouse from the physio. How long is Marlon likely to be out for? Five or six weeks.”
Harewood was optimistic he could make a quick recovery from the injury.
“I did it in training yesterday,” Harewood said. “We were doing sprints and I tore my hamstring.”
“I can’t believe it as I was feeling good and thought I was playing well. I’m not a happy man at the moment but I’ll keep going and hopefully I’ll be back before too long.”
