Blackpool must rebuild quickly for next season

The last day of the Premier League season was exciting and exhilarating but for Blackpool fans it was an awful end to a brilliant season.

For most of last season Blackpool impressed with their swashbuckling style of attacking football.

Leaving

Their relegation from the Premier League means that the Tangerines could lose a lot of their best players.

Welsh midfielder man David Vaughan is set to leave on a free transfer with his contract due to expire on July 1st.

Vaughan is currently being linked with a move to Midlands outfit West Brom and North East side Sunderland. The 28 year-old impressed in the centre of the Tangerines midfield last season.

One of the other players set to leave is midfield inspiration and captain Charlie Adam. The Scot’s exit won’t come as a surprise to Pool fans, as he came very close to leaving Bloomfield Road in the January transfer window.

The Scottish international has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Tottenham. However the ex-Rangers man is set for transfer talks with Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool later this week.

Money

Last season’s campaign in the Premier League will have put Blackpool in a healthy financial state. The fact that they refused to adjust their wage structure while in the Premier League means that they won’t have to cut their wage bill.

Boss

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is a big loss to the Premier League. The former-Leicester boss is such a character. It seems its hard not to like the guy. He came out with some fantastic quotes last season and will be missed.

However Ian Holloway isn’t just a big joke. He is an astute football man. He managed to mastermind Blackpool’s rise into the Premier League against all odds and he will have to do it all over again.

Expectations

I don’t think even Holloway would have expected to lead the club to the Premier League the way he did. He has raised expectations at the club after their promotion. The fans will now be expecting the club to challenge for promotion yet again next season.

Proud

Blackpool fans should be proud of their teams performance last season. The Tangerines became a lot of peoples second team because of their style of the play. They certainly became my second team.

I have lauded Blackpool since before they were promoted to the Premier League. They never changed their style of attacking football and stuck to their principles. Unfortunately it wasn’t good enough to keep them in the top flight.

Additions

Ian Holloway won’t change his sides style of play next season. He will have to sign players capable of playing in his system. With a mass exodus expected Holloway will have to be canny in the transfer market this summer.

However I’m sure he is likely to be given a decent transfer kitty through the sale of the likes of Charlie Adam and possibly striker DJ Campbell, who is also being linked with a move back to the Premier League.

Holloway has got a history of working on a tight budget and managed to get Blackpool into the Premier League on a tiny budget and wage bill. If anyone can get them back in the Premier League then its Holloway. Good luck Ollie!

Can Blackpool win promotion back to the Premier League next season?
