Jerome Boateng is set to return to Bayern Munich and sign a short-term contract with his former club as a free agent, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 35-year-old defender played for Bayern for a decade, between 2011 and 2021, and made total of 363 appearances in their shirt, scoring 10 goals and producing 25 assists. He helped the Bavarians win nine Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokal trophies and as many German Super Cups, two Champions League trophies, followed by the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup on both occasions. He eventually left them as a free agent and spent the following two years playing for Olympique Lyon. His contract with the Ligue 1 side expired at the end of June and he’s been a free agent since.
As for Bayern, they tried to reinforce their back line after parting ways with Benjamin Pavard, but in the end, they failed to sign any of their targets in that department, and they apparently see Boateng as the man to help them through the remainder of the 2023/24 season as they aim for their 13th consecutive Bundesliga title.
