Boateng signs for Bayern

Bayern Munich have signed defender Jerome Boateng from Manchester City on a four-year deal subject to the completion of a medical.

A statement on the Bayern website revealed they had signed the 22-year-old for an undisclosed fee, after the centre-back failed to settle at Eastlands following his 10.4 million-pound transfer from Hamburg in June 2010.

The German, who has been capped 13 times for the national squad, is on a pre-season tour with City in the United States but is expected to have a medical with Bayern within the next few days.

“The board of Bayern Munich and the board of Manchester City have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jerome Boateng,” a Bayern statement read.

“Boateng, who is currently with City in Los Angeles, is expected in Munich in the next few days for a medical.”

“Then he will sign a contract up to June 2015.”

“The clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.”

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the club were thrilled to have finally landed Boateng.

“There have been some intense negotiations and we have come a long way to reach a satisfactory conclusion,” he said.

“With Jerome Boateng we have got our preferred candidate to play in central defence for Bayern Munich.”
