Boca Juniors are the new leaders in the Argentinian Primera Division after a 1-2 victory at San Martin de Tucuman. CA Tigre failed dropped to third place, having been beaten 3-1 by Estudiantes.
After San Lorenzo’s defeat a day earlier, Tigre and Boca had a good opportunity to take advantage.
Tigre began the day in second place but couldn’t compete with Estudiantes, who had their confidence boosted by reaching the final of the Copa Nissan Sudamericana earlier this week.
Juan Sebastian Veron opened the score for Estudiantes after 9 minutes and the remaining home goals came from Moreno y Fabianesi and Benitez. Luna scored Tigre’s only goal.
Boca Juniors needed 38 minutes to take the lead through Viatri but San Martin scored back through Saavedra on the hour mark. The winner came three minutes later though, and was scored by Figuroa.
Both sides had a player sent off in the dying minutes. Boca’s Datolo was sent for an early shower and San Martin’s Perez followed two minutes later.
