Ajax defender Nicolai Boilesen is hopeful that Christian Eriksen will remain with the club.
Denmark international Eriksen has been heavily linked with a move away from the Amsterdam Arena this close-season, with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund thought to be among those interested in purchasing the attacking midfielder.
Eriksen had a hand in the second goal as Ajax started their quest for a fourth consecutive Eredivisie title with a 3-0 win over Roda JC on friday, and compatriot Boilesen has not given up hope of the 21-year-old staying with Frank de Boer’s side.
“When I look at what is best for Ajax, I hope of course that he remains with us,” he told Sporten.
“But he has played here for quite a few years already and become an important force.
“I know he is good enough to take the next step and continue. If that happens, I will stand back wish him good luck.”
Boilesen revealed that he has not asked Eriksen about his future, but insisted that he would not be surprised if the playmaker does choose to leave.
“Did I ask him if he wants to stay another year? No I did not,” he added.
“I know that in this world a lot can happen, and there is still a month to go until the transfer market closes.”
