In what is a Lancashire derby in midweek, Bolton will make the trip to Highbury when they face off against a struggling Fleetwood on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, putting in what was a woeful display over the weekend, Fleetwood find themselves in the midst of a real nightmare. Eventually getting hit with a 5-1 drumming against Accrington Stanley on the road, caretaker boss Stephen Crainey has quite the job on his hands. Opening the midweek fixtures still sat four points adrift of safety, they are also enduring an extended 11-match winless run, a run that stems all the way back to October 16th. Gaining a real reputation for their issues at the back, Fleetwood have also lost seven of their last eight matchups across all formats. On a run that is highlighted by another 4-1 defeat at the hands of Accrington on EFL Trophy duties, Crainey’s temporary side have also shown a host of problems on home soil. Losing each of their last four contests at Highbury, Tuesday’s hosts could be in for another tough test.
As for the visitors, given an extended break over the past week, there is no doubt that Bolton will be smelling another golden chance on Tuesday night. Last seen landing a deserved 1-0 victory against Fleetwood when on EFL Trophy duties, the Trotters will now have their sights firmly set on finding a route into the top-half of the table. Largely impressing since making their League One return earlier in the year, they have also managed to bounce back from their shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of Stockport last month. Likely to still be boosted by a routine 3-0 romp against relegation scrappers Doncaster, Bolton will now be hoping to improve on their issues on the road. Landing that 1-0 win when they faced off against Fleetwood on November 30th, an away victory appears at attractive odds here.
