Sonia Bompastor insists Chelsea are treating every game as a “priority” in the second half of the season as she aims to win her first trophy.
Bompastor has enjoyed a seamless transition since taking over from Emma Hayes, with Chelsea sitting top of the Women’s Super League, six points clear of Manchester City in second.
The Blues, who have won the WSL title in each of the last five seasons, are still fighting on four fronts.
They have reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup and Champions League, and they begin their FA Cup campaign in the fourth round against Charlton Athletic on Sunday.
Bompastor is yet to taste defeat as Chelsea boss and has won all but one of her games in charge – a 1-1 draw with Leicester City on their last WSL outing.
However, Bompastor still expects more from her team as she urged them to keep fighting to win.
“Every game is a priority because every game can help bring a trophy for the club,” she said in a press conference.
“I’m lucky enough to have a strong squad which makes me rotate players across all competitions, and we can still be competitive.
“That’s the most important thing. Now, starting the second part of the season, we have more competitions with the cup competitions, so we need to be ready for that with the players and the squad we have while also studying some opportunities in the transfer window.”
Chelsea had won the FA Cup in three consecutive seasons between 2020-21 and 2022-23, but last season were knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual winners Manchester United.
“[I’m] really excited [for her first FA Cup game],” Bompastor added. “I’ve heard a lot of good and positive things about the FA Cup in England. As a coach and a squad, we are all very excited to start this competition.
“The main thing for us is to stay focused on our strengths and our squad, to make sure we play the level we want to play. Making sure we execute our game model the best we can.
“It’s a trophy to win and this second part of the season is about that. We take it game by game, and we put in all of the elements in each game to win competitions and titles.”
