Bony not for sale; Trabzonspor have been offered €12m for Waris

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has revealed it would take an 'astronomical fee' for the club to sell star striker Wilfried Bony.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has revealed it would take an “astronomical fee” for the club to sell star striker Wilfried Bony.

The Côte d’Ivoire international, who joined Swansea from Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse for a club record fee of £12 million in the summer of 2013, has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur in recent times.

Last month, Bony signed a one-year contract extension at the Liberty Stadium, but speculation regarding the Ivorian’s future continue to dominate the headlines.

Speaking ahead of the Swans’ league clash against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday, Monk has moved to rubbish reports linking Bony with a January exit from the club.

“He’s a Swansea City player,” said Monk.

“In this world, in football, money does dictate things but it would take an astronomical fee for him to ever go anywhere.

“We’re not a selling club, we don’t need to sell. We’re committed to our players and they’re committed to us.

“[Bony] loves scoring goals – it’s his job – and hopefully it’ll continue.”

Monk added: “This is the start of who’s going where; we’ll be linked to a number of players.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to get a couple of bodies in but in terms of names, i’ll keep that to myself.”

Bony has bagged six goals and one assist in 13 English Premier League for Swansea this season.

Trabzonspor have been offered €12m for Waris

Trabzonspor president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu has revealed the club have received a €12 million offer for highly-rated Ghana international forward Abdul Majeed Waris.

According to reports, Waris, 23, was recently scouted by Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs after a series of impressive performances in the UEFA Europa League.

However, an unnamed Qatari are believed to have submitted the €12 million bid for Waris’ services, and United will likely have to €15 million for the Ghanaian’s signature.

“We have received offers for our foreign players. A €12 million offer has been made for Waris,” Haciosmanoglu told Turkish television station Bugun.

Although Waris’ agent Phil Radley was unaware of United’s interest in his client, he is not surprised of interest from England’s top-flight.

“I wasn’t aware of Manchester United travelling to the Europa League fixture – but Premier League interest does not surprise me,” Radley said.

“There were Premier League clubs looking at Waris in the summer, but he was unlucky at the World Cup – he picked up a thigh injury in Ghana’s final warm-up game – were it not for that he would have started alongside Asamoah Gyan and then I think those clubs would have come in for him.

“Waris certainly has the qualities for the Premier League – he is very quick and strong. Clearly he is a proven goal threat, but he is also a real fighter who never gives up and will chase down lost causes and put himself in dangerous areas.”
