Johan Micoud’s last-gasp winner kept FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the French title race but Olympique de Marseille’s top-three ambitions were stunted by LOSC Lille Métropole.
Micoud found the net two minutes into added time at the end of the match to give Bordeaux a crucial 1-0 win at Toulouse FC that cut Olympique Lyonnais’ lead back to four points in Ligue 1. The midfielder conjured up the decisive goal when he latched on to a pass from Gabriel Obertan and neatly dispatched his finish past Nicolas Douchez. Toulouse stay in 16th spot, just three points above the relegation zone.
In the late game, Marseille’s hopes of gaining one of the UEFA Champions League berths suffered a blow as they were defeated 3-1 by Lille at the Stade Vélodrome. A win would have taken the home side third, two points ahead of AS Nancy-Lorraine, and that looked distinctly possible when Mamadou Niang opened the scoring on 12 minutes. But the course of the game turned dramatically when Kevin Mirallas struck twice in a matter of minutes before the break and Jean Makoun added a third midway through the second half to move Lille up three places to sixth as they bid for a return to the European arena next season.
