Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc has defended Yoann Gourcuff after the latest barbs aimed at the French international by AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti.

“I’m glad that Carlo Ancelotti thinks like that, because it allowed us to bring Gourcuff to Bordeaux,” said the World Cup and EURO 2000 winner, who recently signed a two-year contract extension with the promise from the club’s owners that the funds to purchase Gourcuff would be available this summer.

“It’s good to have an opinion, but it can’t be definitive on a young player who is still developing. If we had to give him a report on Yoann’s season, it would be very positive, and that could make him change his mind.”
