Middlesbrough have signed Shay Given on emergency loan from Aston Villa subject to Premier League clearance, according to the Express.
The veteran Republic of Ireland shot-stopper has barely featured for Villa since Paul Lambert became manager, with the Scot opting for United States international Brad Guzan as his number one, while this season he has also been behind Jed Steer in the pecking order.
He moved to the Midlands in 2011 following two and a half seasons with Manchester City while he has also played for Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, as well as having loan spells with Swindon Town and Sunerland.
The 37 year old, who is his country’s second most capped player of all time with 125 international appearances, hasn’t played a league match since Villa’s 3-1 defeat to Everton last August but could go straight into Aitor Karanka’s starting eleven this weekend for the home game against Bolton Wanderers.
