Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund today announced the departure of manager Thomas Doll.

Reportedly, Doll offered his resignation after leading his team to a disappointing 13th place; the team’s worst performance in twenty years.

“Thomas Doll easily kept us at the highest level, and reached the final of the DFB-Pokal. The team will play European football next year because of that. We owe him gratitude,” said the club on its official website.

Doll spent a bit more than a year in Dortmund, having taken over from Jürgen Röber in March of 2007.

One of the top favorites for the job is Jürgen Klopp, who only just missed out on promotion with MSV Mainz.
