Borussia Dortmund to buy local?

According to a recent report from Sport Bild, Borussia Dortmund are aiming to invest in local players more so than anyone else in the future. Marco Reus is currently the only German player in their starting line up, and they’re believed to be interested in building a home grown ‘core’ within their squad. Dortmund are currently riding high at the top of the Bundesliga table, although Bayern Munich have done a good job of catching them up in recent months.

This snippet may come as a surprise to some fans, especially when you consider that the narrative we’ve always heard insists Germany thrives on supporting their local talent.

That’s still the case across Bundesliga, but it seems as if Dortmund realised that in order to challenge Bayern at the top, they had to pull together a variety of different players from around the world and transform them into a cohesive unit.
