According to a recent report from Sky Sport Italia, Borussia Dortmund are considered to be the frontrunners in the race to sign Napoli forward Dries Mertens. His current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, with the belief being that China, or potentially even Major League Soccer, could be his next destination.
Alas, despite the intrigue surrounding a move away and outside of Europe, Dortmund are willing to offer him a lifeline.
The 32 year old veteran was seemingly been linked with a switch away from Napoli for longer than most fans can remember, but has remained loyal up to this point. Alas, with Napoli looking towards the future, it seems like only a matter of time before a deal like this becomes a reality.
Dortmund, on the other hand, have been incredibly unpredictable with some of their transfers as of late – and it certainly seems like that’ll continue to be the case.
