Bosingwa gets Premier League lessons from Ronaldo

Chelsea's new right-back Jose Bosingwa has been getting advice from Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo about how to handle life in the Premier League.

Bosingwa was officially unveiled at Chelsea's training ground on Wednesday following his 16.2 million pounds (20.4 million euros) move from Porto and has already been well briefed on English football.

The Portugal defender got the lowdown from Ronaldo during Euro 2008, although he insisted they did not discuss his compatriot's potential move to Real Madrid.

If Ronaldo does stay at Old Trafford he may regret his advice to Bosingwa as the pair will be in direct competition when Chelsea and United clash in the Premier League this season.

“We have not spoken about that (Ronaldo's future). We did speak about football in England which is a different kind of league,” Bosingwa said.

“It is very competitive and it's a fast type of football. They are very professional and you have to work very hard on the pitch for the whole game.”

Bosingwa agreed to join Chelsea before Luiz Felipe Scolari, who coached him with Portugal, was appointed as Avram Grant's successor.

The 25-year-old is delighted to be working with the Brazilian again.

“I had no idea because Mr Grant was the manager and I had no idea Scolari would be the new coach,” he added.

“As a coach I don't have to say very much about my coach because his CV speaks for itself.

“He has won everything with clubs in Brazil and then the national team. He was a great manager with Portugal and he is a friend to the players and he protects his players and he's someone who is trusted.

“He always tries to help his players in any way he can and if you have a personal problem he's the first to try and help out and get you where you need to be to sort things out and help as much as he can.”

Bosingwa joins a Chelsea squad still smarting from last season's Champions League final defeat against United, but the Portuguese, who won the competition with Porto in 2004, is already setting his sights on helping Chelsea get back to the final.

“I did win it and it's great to win but we are in many competitions,” he said. “We try to win everything and the Champions League is not going to be the only one we will try to win.

“I'll keep working as hard as I have done for Porto. It's what I have always done and I will do the same at Chelsea to get into the first team.”
