Chelsea right-back Jose Bosingwa has been snubbed again by Portugal for their Euro 2012 play-off matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Bosingwa had been tipped to return after a year’s absence, but was left out in favour of Joao Pereira and Silvio.
Portuguese coach Paulo Bento has named Fabio Coentrao, Pepe, Hugo Almeida and Danny in his 23-man squad after they missed the last two Euro 2012 qualifiers because of injury.
“Bosingwa is a starter for Chelsea and Joao Pereira a starter for Sporting Lisbon,” Bento told reporters at a press conference.
“Although Silvio has some fitness problems, he has been playing regularly at Atletico Madrid and he can play on both sides of the defence.”
The Euro 2004 runners-up will face Bosnia in Zenica on November 11 before hosting Safet Susic’s men in Lisbon four days later.
Bosnia will be without left-back Sasa Papac and Boris Pandza, who are both suspended for the first leg. Right-back Mensur Mujdza is injured.
Sanel Jahic will more than likely partner Sevilla’s Emir Spahic in the centre of defence with Susic likely to drop Lulic to left-back where he has been used often at club level.
