Two of the Championship’s heavy hitters will go to battle on Wednesday night as Aston Villa will welcome Brentford to Villa Park with both sides looking to continue their impressive start to the new season.
Starting with the hosts, although there was so much uncertainty over the future of the likes of talisman Jack Grealish, Villa have managed to keep their main man and have once again started the new season brightly. Booking their spot in the second round of the EFL Cup with a 1-0 win over lower league Yeovil, while they may have only left Portman Road with a point over the weekend, Villa are still unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions. Although they have only kept one clean sheet in their unbeaten run, they have averaged at least two goals over the past month.
As for the visitors, after a summer of ins and outs at Griffin Park, Dean Smith’s Brentford side have transformed into one of the Championships standout sides. Coming off the back of a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, The Bees are unbeaten in their four matches in the new campaign and also put four past Southend as they cruised to the next round of the EFL Cup. Scoring 12 in their last four, two men to watch for the visitors are Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins. The pair already have three goals each in their opening three Championship matches.
