Now unbeaten in their last three games and planning a late push for the playoffs, DC United, led by Wayne Rooney will welcome Portland to Audi Field Stadium on Thursday.
Starting with Ben Olsen’s DC United side, although the hosts do still sit bottom of the East, they have begun to show plenty of improvements and are now unbeaten in their last three, scoring six goals. One man to watch is DC’s latest and biggest star Wayne Rooney. Epitomising United’s recent turn of fortune in producing a sublime last-minute assist in their 3-2 win over Orlando City last time out, England’s all-time leading goalscorer has now been directly involved in four of DC’s last six goals.
As for Giovanni Savarese’s Portland side, although The Timbers still remain in pole position to secure a Top Six finish, they have show some struggles. Coming off the back of a 2-1 loss to Vancouver, they have now only managed to keep one clean sheet in their last five and four of those outings have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. If The Timbers are to get back on track, the visitors will be looking for last years MLS MVP Diego Valeri to carry on his impressive run of form. With nine goals and 10 assists so far this season, the 32-year-old now has two in two for The Greens.
