Two sides who find themselves seeking some stability, Atlanta will welcome away day strugglers New York Red Bulls to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night.
Starting with the hosts, left stunned by Philadelphia’s last-gasp comeback last weekend, Atlanta really failed to impress on their travels earlier in the week. Failing to bounce back and hit with a deserved defeat away at New York City, the former MLS champions have failed to win any of their last four matchups and have gained a reputation for their issues at the back on either side of the international break. Managing to muster just a single point from their last nine straight contests, a run that stems back to a 3-1 win against a struggling Chicago on April 25th, Atlanta have also played out back-to-back 2-2 draws on home soil. Now in a real battle to find a route back into the play-off spots, it should be noted that The Five Stripes hold a torrid record against Sunday’s guests. Gabriel Heinze’s side have managed to pick up just a single point from their last four meetings against The Red Bulls.
As for the visitors, while New York RB might have landed themselves back-to-back victories on either side of the international break, Gerhard Struber’s side slumped back to losing ways earlier in the week. Despite trying to mount a late second-half comeback away at a high-flying New England, The Whites were hit with an action-packed 3-2 defeat on the road. While the former champions might have bagged over 1.5 goals in each of their last three contests on the spin, the one-time Barnsley boss will have a real headache over his side’s continued problems on the road. New York have now lost each of their last four MLS away fixtures on the spin since opening the 2021 campaign, shipping a trio of goals in three of those appearances. In a matchup that could prove to be another lively affair this weekend, we’re backing both teams to find the net on Sunday night.
Bet: Both teams to score at Atlanta United vs New York Red Bulls 2/3 for Sunday’s MLS matchup @ 888sport
