Two sides enjoying a recent resurge in England’s third-tier, Blackpool will welcome Tranmere to Bloomfield Road for what could be a lively encounter on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while a string of poor performances and off-field issues may have seen Blackpool open 2020 in the midst of a real crisis, new boss Neil Critchley finds his side enjoying quite the bounce back. Picking up a point away at play-off contenders and League One high-flyers Fleetwood last weekend, fans around Bloomfield Road have now seen their side enjoy a four-match unbeaten run. Sat within touching distance of climbing back into the top half, there is no doubt that a huge part of Blackpool’s recent resurge has come thanks to their displays on home soil. Including picking up a very shocking 2-1 win over former leaders Ipswich last month, Tuesday’s hosts have won three of their last four matchups Lancashire and have recorded at least a pair of goals in each of their last four consecutive appearances at Bloomfield Road.
As for the visitors, while Tranmere might find themselves still sat six points adrift of safety, Micky Mellon’s men have started to show some much-needed signs of life. Picking up back-to-back 3-2 and 2-1 victories over Shrewsbury and Accrington Stanley, the Merseyside outfit have managed to land consecutive League One victories for the first time this season. With each of those two victories coming away from Prenton Park, there is no doubt that Tranmere will make the trip to Bloomfield Road looking to cause another upset this week. In a matchup that should produce plenty of chances at both ends and with four of the last five meetings between the two sides seeing both teams find the net, we’re backing a similar outcome on Tuesday night.
