In a battle between two sides looking to secure a top-half finish this season, Brisbane Roar will welcome the Western Sydney Wanderers to the Suncorp Stadium on Friday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Brisbane may have been left devastated to see AFC Champions League contenders Melbourne City grab a second-half 1-0 win at AAMI Park last weekend, the Oranges are enjoying a new lease of life under new boss Robbie Fowler. With the former Liverpool icon nominated for yet another Coach of the Month award out in Australia, fans around the Suncorp Stadium have seen their side lose just a pair of their last 10 A-League appearances. Finding a route into the top-half of the table and promising that the mood in their camp is on the rise, Fowler’s side should also be boosted by their most recent meeting against Friday’s guests. When Brisbane made the trip to Sydney on New Year’s Day, the Oranges picked up what was a very eye-catching 2-1 win on the road.
As for the visitors, despite what was a woeful start to the season, the Western Sydney Wanderers certainly find the mood in their camp at a season-high. Shocking almost everyone across Australia and picking up what was a stunning 1-0 win away at runaway leaders and bitter rivals Sydney FC, caretaker boss Jean-Paul de Marigny has seen his side win three of their last four A-League appearances and in the midst of an unbeaten run that stems back to the 19th of January. Also landing 3-1 and 5-2 wins over Central Coast and Adelaide last month, the Wanderers will be confident of causing another upset this week. In a matchup that should produce plenty of chances at both ends of the pitch, we’re backing both teams to find the net at the Suncorp Stadium on Friday morning.
