Competition: A-League
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport
Two sides who will be looking to sign off this year’s A-League campaign with three points, Brisbane Roar will meet Western United at the Bankwest Stadium on Sunday morning.
Starting with Brisbane, while the Oranges might have been disappointed to have only collected a point off of newly-crowned champions Sydney last time out, caretaker boss Warren Moon has seen his side secure a top-six finish with time to spare. With a 1-0 loss against Adelaide their only defeat since the start of March, last year’s scrappers have really found their feet after what was a worrying start to the year. While Brisbane might be continuing to show some issues at the back and having now failed to record a clean sheet in any of their last four appearances on the bounce, they do have one leading marksman enjoying a real purple patch. Bagging two goals in his last three A-League outings, Scott McDonald has landed six goals in his final seven contests and will be looking to get one over on his former employers this weekend.
As for the Western United, while Mark Rudan’s men might have managed to secure a top-six finish after a stunning end to the year, they will be seeking a response after a 3-1 hammering against Melbourne City earlier in the week. Failing to build off of their three-match winning run, Rudan has been open about his side’s recent issues at the back. Shipping over 2.5 goals in Sydney on Wednesday morning, the Green and Blacks have managed to land just a single clean sheet over their last six appearances. While Brisbane might have one former star enjoying a free-scoring end to the year, Sunday’s guests have their own leading marksman enjoying what has been a remarkable purple patch. Converting from the spot in midweek, Besart Berisha has found the net in his last four contests on the bounce, recording five goals.
