Enjoying a very eye-catching purple patch, Orlando City will travel to DC United in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while DC United might still be in the hunt to clinch the Eastern Conference outright this year, Ben Olsen’s side are enduring a worrying patch. Suffering a 2-1 loss at home to New York City FC and crashing out of the US Open Cup last week, they have now failed to win any of their last eight matchups, a run that stems back to the 13th of May. While former England international Wayne Rooney might still be spearheading DC’s charge in the final third, there still remains plenty of issues over United’s defensive issues. Thursday’s hosts have failed to record a single clean sheet on home soil in their last five attempts.
As for the visitors, coming past fellow MLS outfit New England and booking their spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s US Open Cup, the mood in Orlando’s camp couldn’t be any higher. Winning four of their last five outings, their continued performances on the road will be most impressing Head Coach James O’Connor. Winning back-to-back matches on their travels and scoring three goals in each of those victories, one man to watch in midweek will be leading goalscorer and former Manchester United winger, Nani. The 32-year-old has now scored eight goals in his last eight outings.
