Two sides who have struggled with their consistency entering 2019, Espanyol will host Real Betis in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarterfinal.

Starting with Rubi’s Espanyol side, coming off the back of a 3-0 loss away at Eibar last weekend, Thursday’s hosts will be in desperate need of a response. Now quickly freefalling down the La Liga table and recording just three wins since the start of November, Periquitos have arguably saved their best performances for the Copa del Rey. Coming past Villarreal in the last 32, Rubi will know that his side must improve on their form at the back. Shipping three on Saturday, Espanyol have now managed to record just a single clean sheet in their last eight attempts.

As for the visitors, much like Espanyol, Quique Setién’s visitors find themselves in a very similar position. Although Real Betis might sit seventh in the La Liga table and have their own European ambitions, they have managed to win just one of their last six matches across all competitions. Expected to be boosted by their 3-2 win over Girona last weekend, Los Verdiblancos must improve on their form at the back. Betis have now shipped two goals in their last three consecutive appearances and have not recorded a clean sheet since the start of December. With nine of the last 11 combined matches seeing both teams score, we’re backing a similar outcome on Thursday night.
