Two sides who find themselves enjoying real purple patches, Finn Harps and Derry City will turn their attention back to FAI Cup duties on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while the Finn Harps might still find themselves looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, they are enjoying what has been a real bounce. Skyrocketing their way out of the relegation play-off spot, Head Coach Ollie Horgan saw his side put in what was a shock display on home soil last weekend. Stunning many across Ireland as they managed to land a thumping 3-1 win away at title outsiders St Patrick’s Athletic, The Blues are now in the midst of a four-match winning run across all formats. With the mood in their camp potentially at a season-high, The Harps have also gained a recent reputation for their displays in the final third. Building off of that thumping 3-0 romp against Longford Town earlier in the month, Horgan’s men might be smelling a chance to cause another upset on home soil this week.
As for the visitors, also putting in what was another impressive display last weekend, there is no doubt that Derry are in the midst of what has been a stellar purple patch. Now with their sights firmly set on landing a shock European finish this season, The Candystripes were last seen picking up a stunning 2-1 win away at fellow top-three contenders Sligo Rovers. Storming their way up the table, Head Coach and former player Ruaidhrí Higgins now finds his side enjoying a six-match winning run across all formats, a run that stems back to July 16th. Looking to lay down what would be another marker on Friday and extend on their FAI Cup run, Derry will also be boosted by a rampant record on the road. Including last weekend’s 2-1 win away at Sligo, The Red and Whites have won each of their last four away fixtures on the spin.
