France may be top of Group C heading into Thursday’s clash against Peru, but definitely have something to prove if they are going to realise their ambitions of World Cup glory this summer.
For Didier Deschamps’ side, although Les Bleus are coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Australia that currently sees them top Group C, France were far from at their best and know they must make a statement on Thursday afternoon. Expecting to come up against a well organized Peru outfit, The Blues will be looking for talisman Antionie Greizemann to lead from the front after scoring a penalty in the opening outing. The Atletico forward has been directly involved in nine of France’s last 13 goals scored.
As for Peru, although The Reds dominated their opening fixture against Denmark, Ricardo Gareca’s side fell to a 1-0 loss and their goal difference now sees them sat bottom of Group C. While they are coming off the back of a defeat, Peru did create several opportunities and will rue a missed penalty in the first half. Creating 17 opportunities against Denamrk, although they have now failed to win any of their last seven World Cup appearances, The Reds will fancy their chances of creating more opportunities against a France defense who were far from convincing against Australia.
