In a contest between two sides who should find the mood in their camp at a high, Hibernian will welcome Aberdeen to an empty Easter Road on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, keeping up what has been a stunning start to the new campaign with a deserved last-gasp winner away at St. Johnstone last time out, Hibernian have really caught the eye since opening the new campaign. Despite seeing themselves sat in the bottom half of the standings before last year’s season was brought to an early halt, Jack Ross’ side have already collected 13 points from their opening five appearances and are enjoying their brightest run in recent memory. With a 0-0 stalemate against Motherwell the only minor blip on their record, the one-time Sunderland boss saw his side really lay down an early marker when they landed a thumping 4-1 win away at Livingston earlier in the month. Landing a 3-0 win the last time Sunday’s guests came to town, Hibbs will be confident of picking up a notable scalp this weekend.
As for the visitors, while off-field issues earlier in the month might still find Aberdeen playing catch up, Derek McInnes’ men appear to have bounced back in impressive fashion. While they might have opened the New Year with a close-fought 1-0 loss against league leaders Rangers on the opening weekend, the Reds have since picked up back-to-back Premiership wins against St. Johnstone and Livingston. With another top-three finish at the top of their agenda this season, Aberdeen also managed to keep the mood in their camp with a thumping European victory in midweek. Carrying on their Europa League qualifying adventure at Pittodrie, they put six past Faroe Islands outfit NSI on Thursday night and have now bagged eight strikes in their last two appearances. In a contest that famously produces lively encounters, we’re backing both teams to find the net on Sunday afternoon.
