In what is an all-Premier League showdown on Wednesday night, Leicester and Arsenal will turn their attention to EFL Cup duties when they meet at the King Power.

Starting with the hosts, while Leicester might have been left heartbroken to have thrown away a Champions League finish after their worrying return from the enforced break, the Foxes have enjoyed their start to the New Year. Along with watching attacking talisman Jamie Vardy open his account with a brace away at top-flight returners West Brom in their 3-0 victory on the opening weekend, Brendan Rodgers’ men managed to make it two in two as they came past Burnley on Sunday in what turned out to be a six-goal thriller at the King Power. Eventually landing a dramatic 4-2 win against the Clarets on home soil, the one-time Liverpool boss should also be boosted by his side’s eye-catching record against the Gunners in Leicestershire. Remarkably, the Foxes have now won each of their last three straight meetings against Arsenal at the King Power by an aggregate score of 8-1.

As for the visitors, while many felt that Arsenal were extremely lucky to have managed to grab a last-gasp winner against West Ham at the Emirates over the weekend, the Gunners do find the mood in their camp at a real high. Already lifting both the FA Cup and the Community Shield at an empty Wembley last month, Mikel Arteta has made quite the immediate impact in North London and the former Premier League champions have their sights set on a top-four return this season. Opening the New Year with a thumping 3-0 victory away at London rivals Fulham on the opening weekend, Pep Guardiola’s former right-hand man also has a pair of leading marksman enjoying a real summer purple patch. Along with watching Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put pen to paper on a new deal, strike partner Alexandre Lacazette has now recorded back-to-back strikes so far.
