Looking to tick off another game and move one step closer to the Ligue 1 title, Lille will make the trip to The Stade Bollaert-Delelis when they face off against Lens on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Lens might have been hit with a hard-fought 2-1 defeat against Champions League semi-finalists PSG last weekend, Franck Haise’s men have shocked many across Europe this season. Only marking their Ligue 1 return last year, the Pas-de-Calais outfit have themselves a stunning European finish at the top of their agenda this time around. Gaining a string of plaudits on either side of March’s international break, their loss against the defending champions last week was their first top-flight defeat in their previous 14 matchups, a run that stems all the way back to January 23rd. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures still hanging onto the final European spot, it should also be noted that Lens are unbeaten in their last seven home fixtures on the bounce, including back-to-back 2-1 and 4-1 wins against Lorient and Nimes last month.
As for the visitors, another side that has only continued to shock almost everyone across France, Lille still find themselves leading the race for the Ligue 1 crown. Holding a one-point buffer over PSG with just a handful of games remaining, Les Dogues managed to land a 2-0 victory against Nice on home soil and they should still be boosted by that stunning display away at Lyon on April 25th. Despite falling 2-0 behind away at the European contenders, Christophe Galtier’s side mounted a famous turnaround as they eventually clinched an action-packed 3-2 win on their travels. With the mood in their camp at a red-hot high and knowing that they have a golden chance to lift their first Ligue 1 title since 2011, Lille have collected 13 points from their last five top-flight contests. In a matchup that could be another lively meeting, we’re backing both teams to find the net.
