Two sides who have largely impressed since returning from France’s festive break, Lyon will welcome Bordeaux to an empty Groupama Stadium on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Lyon might have suffered that shock 1-0 loss at home against Metz a fortnight ago, Les Gones managed to make an empathic return to winning ways last weekend. Eventually picking up what quickly turned into a 5-0 romp against bitter rivals Saint-Etienne on the road, Head Coach Rudi Garcia has seen his side remarkably suffer just a single Ligue 1 defeat since way back on September 15th. With the red-hot Tinotenda Kadewere bagging himself a brace last weekend and extending his record to five top-flight strikes in his last eight matchups, Lyon have also largely impressed with their performances in front of goal. Along with recording five strikes away at Saint-Etienne last time out, it should be noted that Garcia’s men have bagged themselves at least a pair of goals in six of their last seven Ligue 1 appearances.
As for the visitors, while Bordeaux might have entered France’s festive break last month with a worrying 3-1 defeat against Remis on home soil, Les Girondins have bounced back in some style. Enjoying arguably their brightest spell of the season so far and some in their camp even dreaming of a serious European charge this year, Jean-Louis Gasset saw his side extend on their recent purple patch with a 2-1 win against Angers last time out. In fact, showing some real improvements in the final and making the trip to Lyon on Friday night confident of causing an upset on the road, it should be highlighted that Bordeaux have won each of their last three Ligue 1 contests on the spin. With eight of the last nine meetings between Friday’s opponents seeing both teams find the net, we’re backing a similar outcome this weekend.
