In another all-star showdown on Tuesday night, Manchester City will welcome PSG to an empty Etihad with their fate still in their own hands.
Starting with the hosts, while Manchester City might have made a string of changes away at Selhurst Park over the weekend, they did manage to build off of that stunning victory out in Paris last week. Eventually cruising their way to a 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime, Pep Guardiola’s side still have a silverware sweep at the top of their agenda this season. With the mood in their camp at a real high and picking up that crucial 2-1 win in their first-leg meeting on foreign soil, The Sky Blues are also within touching distance of reclaiming their Premier League crown. Tipped by many as the leading pick to lift their first European title this season, City should also be boosted by an eye-catching Champions League record on home soil. Last seen at The Etihad picking up a 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund, Tuesday’s hosts have won their last five European matchups at home by an aggregate score of 13-2.
As for the visitors, after throwing away the lead on home soil in their 2-1 defeat last week, PSG would have at least been glad to make an immediate return to winning ways over the weekend. Claiming a 2-1 win against surprise package Lens, Mauricio Pochettino’s side know that they’re still in a real battle to reclaim their domestic crown this season. Still trailing a high-flying Lille by a single point in what has been a stunning title battle, the former Tottenham boss has at least seen his side continue to impress away from The Parc des Princes. Including that 3-2 win against German giants Bayern Munich, PSG have won each of their last 10 straight contests outside of the capital. With last week’s meeting in Paris producing a string of chances at both ends of the pitch, we’re backing another lively meeting on Tuesday night and both teams to find the net.
