Two sides who find themselves really seeking a boost in the early hours of Thursday morning, Montreal will welcome Atlanta to the Stade Saputo.
Starting with the hosts, while Montreal might have found themselves enjoying what was a stellar purple patch when opening July, Wilfried Nancy’s men have really come crashing back down to earth. Missing out on what many across the MLS thought was a golden chance away at a struggling Inter Miami last weekend, The Blacks were hit with a shock 2-1 defeat on the road, a result that saw them come under real scrutiny. Now only holding a one-point buffer from dropping out of the Final Series places, Montreal have lost each of their last three MLS contests on the spin. Despite showing a host of recent issues at the back, Thursday’s hosts should at least be boosted by their continued success at the Stade Saputo. Including that remarkable 5-4 win against Cincinnati last month, Nancy’s side have collected 10 points from their last four home fixtures.
As for the visitors, throwing away the lead away at Orlando last weekend, Atlanta’s display on the road almost underlined what has been a nightmare campaign for the former MLS champions. Hit with a pair of late goals and eventually slipping to an action-packed 3-2 defeat, The Five Stripes are also still looking for a new permanent boss in their dugout. Struggling to find their feet under interim coach Rob Valentino, Thursday’s guests are in a real uphill battle to secure a shock Final Series spot. Without a win in any of their last 11 straight outings, a run that stems back to May 16th, Atlanta have gained a reputation for their lively outcomes. With each of their last three contests away from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
