Two of the high flyers in the A-League will meet on Wednesday morning with Sydney FC will travel to HBF Park to face league leaders Perth Glory.
Starting with the hosts, while Perth could only slump to an eighth-place finish in the A-League last season, many in Australia are shocked by the dramatic rise of Tony Popovic’s side. Coming off the back of another impressive showing in their 4-2 win away at Brisbane last weekend, the West coast side now hold a three-point buffer at the top of the table. Looking to avenge their 2-1 loss to Sydney last month, Popovic will be looking for leading goalscorer Andy Keogh to lead from the front. The 32-year-old grabbed a brace for the Purples last week and now has three goals in his last two appearances.
As for the visitors, while Sydney may have clinched the A-League title with a 14 point buffer last season, Graham Arnold’s side now sit down in third and are already chasing a three-point deficit. Although it might have been a slow start for the defending champions, Sydney have begun to show some real signs of improvement. Picking up a 5-2 win over Central Coast Mariners last weekend, Arnold’s side are enjoying a four-match winning run that has seen them scored 13 times. One man who is really impressing in the final third is summer arrival and former Reading striker Adam Le Fondre. Already sat top of the goalscoring charts, the 32-year-old has bagged four goals in his last three outings.
