With a spot in the third round of this year’s EFLP Cup up for grabs, QPR will welcome League One outfit Portsmouth to Loftus Road on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while back-to-back defeats against Swansea and Bristol City may have dampened the mood around Loftus Road earlier in the month, QPR bounced back emphatically over the weekend. Putting three past Wigan and securing a 3-1 victory in West London, Mark Warburton’s men are dreaming of a surprise top-half charge this season. However, despite showing some much-needed improvements after last years relegation scrap, there are some defensive issues that still need resolving. The Hoops have failed to record a clean sheet in any contest so far this season and have shipped two or more goals in three of their last four.

As for the visitors, arguably showing some signs of a hangover after failing to secure a route out of League One last season, Portsmouth would have been devastated to throw away a two-goal lead against a nine-man Coventry over the weekend. Also suffering a 2-1 defeat away at Sunderland in their final appearance away from the South Coast, Kenny Jacket’s men have shipped five goals in their last two outings and are struggling with some issues away from Fratton Park. Pompey have lost both of their opening two matches on the road and Wednesday could prove to be another tricky test.
