In what could be a lively encounter this weekend, European contenders Real Sociedad will make the trip to the Estadio Benito Villamarín on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Real Betis may have opened December enjoying quite the run of form, Rubi’s men have once again begun to show some signs of a struggle. Only managing to leave Alaves with a point a fortnight ago, Los Verdiblancos have failed to win any of their last three La Liga matchups, a run that also saw them play out a 2-2 draw against rock-bottom Espanyol last month. While Betis might be continuing to find the net at a steady rate, there is no doubt that fans around the Estadio Benito Villamarín will be concerned by their side’s issues at the back. Sunday’s hosts have recorded just a single clean sheet since the 20th of September.

As for the visitors, booking their spot in the fourth round of this year’s Copa del Rey with a thumping 4-0 victory away at lower league Ceuta last weekend, Real Sociedad are enjoying quite the campaign. Opening the weekend sat fifth and in pole position to bring European football back to the Reale Arena, Head Coach Imanol Alguacil has seen his side lose just a single matchup since the end of November. A huge part of Sociedad’s recent success has been thanks to their recent performances on the road. Playing out a dramatic 4-3 win away at Osasuna in their last appearance away from the Reale Arena, Alguacil’s men have lost just a single matchup on the road since the end of September.
