Looking to carry on what has become a very eye-catching run of form, Western Conference leaders LAFC will make the trip to Real Salt Lake in the early hours of Sunday.

Starting with the hosts, while a bright run of form last month may have had Real Salt Lake dreaming of a charge up the Western Conference, they do appear to have slipped back to their old ways. Shipping four away at the Red Bull Arena last weekend and suffering back-to-back defeats against New York and Montreal, fans in Utah will be concerned by their recent defensive issues. Despite impressing at the Rio Tinto Stadium and winning three of their last four contests in front of their own supporters, Wednesday’s hosts have shipped six goals in their last two appearances and have recorded just a single clean sheet since the middle of April.

As for the visitors, picking up a 3-2 win away at Portland last weekend and now holding a nine-point buffer at the top of the West, the mood in Los Angeles’ camp couldn’t be any higher. Yet to taste defeat since the 18th of April, a nine-match unbeaten run, a huge part of the Whites’ title charge has come thanks to their continued form in the final third. Led by leading goalscorer Carlos Vela, Wednesday’s visitors hold the best-attacking record of any side in the West or the East and have now bagged seven goals in their last two showings. However, failing to record a clean sheet in any of their last three appearances, we’re backing a lively encounter in Utah in midweek.
