Looking to build off of what was a very eye-catching run during pre-season, Roma will open their Serie A campaign when they welcome Genoa to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, marching on a nine-match unbeaten run at the end of last season and managing to secure European football for fans around the Stadio Olimpico, the mood in Roma’s camp will be on a high. Enjoying a free-scoring summer that saw them manage to take victories off of Spanish giants Real Madrid and French runners-ups Lille, Head Coach Paulo Fonseca has now seen his side not taste a single defeat in any competition since the 31st of March. While last years leading goalscorer Stephan El Shaarawy may have made the move to China over the summer, Roma did still manage to bag 13 goals in their five pre-season appearances.

As for the visitors, much like Sunday’s hosts, Genoa have found themselves enjoying a real purple patch over the summer. With only their goal difference helping them retain their Serie A status in a nail-biting finish, I Rossoblu have won five of their six pre-season appearances, including a lively 4-3 victory over Lyon last month. Also coming off the back of an empathic 4-1 win over Imolese in the Coppa Italia last weekend, Aurelio Andreazzoli find the confidence in their camp the highest it has been in recent memory. On paper, this has all the makings of a lively encounter at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend.
